Announcing: The "Heavenly Heartland" Road Trip!

The EIC Crew is pleased to announce its 2010 Spring Road Trip event on Saturday, April 24th 2010. The event will begin with a walking tour of Flat Rock Hollow and continue through the heart of Izard County visiting various historical sites. During the event, we will visit Flat Rock Hollow (fantastic Rock formation at the convergence of two creeks with waterfalls), Flat Rock Church, The Old Stone Store-Building at Band Mill, Newburg Schoolhouse, Old Philadelphia Church & Cemetery, The P. O. Wren Store, and Caney Springs Church. Besides the walking tour, other activities are being planned including a short history lesson at Old Philadelphia and a visit inside the P.O. Wren Store at Lacrosse. The tour will last 3-4 hours and cover approximately 25 Miles.

During all of our tour-events, we seek to raise funds for an important historical preservation project in the county. This Spring, we will be donating all proceeds to The Izard County Veteran's Memorial Park to help with the addition of a new Flagpole and an expanded memorial wall. Izard County has a rich, rich history of military service during every era of its existence and it deserves to be honored and remembered!

Flat Rock Hollow: Sentinel Valley Traverse

This past weekend, we explored Flat Rock Hollow below the two waterfalls we've visited before. The hollow winds between high bluffs and passes through one valley that hosts columns of standing stones on both ridges, hence our dubbing it "Sentinel Valley". We squeezed along one large fissure in a bluff before reaching our destination, an 80 - 100 foot high wet - weather waterfall! There is evidence that as the water approaches the precipice when the stream is running, it is sometimes 3 - 4 ft deep when it plunges to the forest floor below.
We've known about this waterfall for nearly two-years and were glad to have the opportunity to visit it. But...we must return this spring when the hills are alive with the sound of rushing water!
