Natural Bridge near Dolph
Our host was gracious enough to show us the awesome natural bridge on his property near Dolph, Arkansas. The feature spans the headwaters of Calico Creek. In the old days, farmers in the area would pack the crevices on top of the natural bridge with earth so they could drive wagons and livestock from one side of the deep canyon, which runs a long way along Calico Creek, to the other side.
We were told of more very cool sites further along the creek, including Cantrell Den...where the locals hid their horses and other livestock from Bushwhackers and Union troops during the Civil-War. An excursion is being planned to that site and the others of which we were told.
The old house stands at the entrance to the property.
Heartfelt gratitude to our hosts!!
