The Road Trip will be in two segments:

1) Off-Road Trail Ride to Dodd Hole 10am - 11:30am

2) Road Trip and "Rolling Concert" Tour to The Gristmill Waterfall and the Waterfall at Gid 12pm - 3pm
Note - All vehicles welcome!

Gid Waterfall
We will have pic-nic on the grounds of the Gid Waterfall and encourage everyone to bring swimming attire! We want to get you SPLASHED!

As with all of our Road Trip events, we will have limited space available. Please! Contact us ASAP to reserve your spot on this unique tour!

Those who register for this event will receive a packet with a map, schedule, and more details once the tour is filled.

Southern Spring Splash!

On Friday, Rick and I joined Sheri G. and her friends, Cathy and Marion from the Fayetteville area, for lunch at the Gid Waterfall before also visiting the Gristmill Waterfall nearby. Sheri (who is Rick's big sister) and Cathy were classmates and close childhood friends.

Cathy, who was raised in Izard County, had visited the Gid Waterfall as a teenager and happened to see it on our site a couple of years ago. We were happy to have been able to take her and her husband to see both waterfalls and both Rick and I thoroughly enjoyed their company...as well as their absolutely scrumptious chicken salad!

Homage to Winter in Anticipation of Spring!

Excitement builds each year for us at EIC at each chance of a good snow. Driving the backroads of Izard County when the hills are blanketed in snow gives one a similar feeling as stepping out on the town with your hot-clad sweetheart!

A "similar feeling" because, unlike a night out with your beautiful soulmate, one is most likely glad when an icy rendezvous is over.

An encounter or two per year satisfies the lust for snowy drives!

Therefore, in the hope of Redbuds and Dogwoods, we pay homage to Winters past while inviting glorious Spring!

The video below is compiled of photos and video from the winters of 2007-2009.

ENJOY!

The Coleman House

The Coleman House stands along what was once known as Coleman Lane. This is the very home where Little Johnny Lee spent his last night before succumbing to the elements during a fierce winter-storm in 1886. Little Johnny (around 10-years old), along with Nathan Bailey (18 years-old),was sent to the Gristmill near Gid by Johnny's father despite stern warnings from the boy's mother, relatives, and friends.
The story is related in a song written by Rev. John Crafton who was the very first pastor of the Freewill Baptist Church just down the road from the site of the mill.

Here is an excerpt:

Then Nathan started back for Uncle Sam's; his load was not so light.
It was getting very late and they had to stay all night.

Now Johnny said to Nathan, "Think that I am beat,
For I am very hungry and nothing yet to eat."
The boys got their supper and lay upon the floor,
And they almost froze to death, they slept so near the door.

When morning came, they started for home, but the saddest is not yet.
They heard it said to them, it was time for them to get.
The boys started on together; they traveled with might and main.
It took them just one hour to go through Coleman's Lane.

-From the song Little Johnny Lee Rev. John Crafton, 1886

Little Johnny's father paid for his bad judgment by spending 3-years in prison.

Izard County Southern Falls Tour

Sunday afternoon, we had the pleasure of showing off the waterfalls in southern Izard County to the Batesville Daily Guard staff-writer/photographer, Tony McGuffey, and his wife, Roberta. We first went to the Gristmill Waterfall at Gid (bottom photos in post), then to the Gid Waterfall (middle of post), and finally to Dodd Hole (top). Tony and Roberta have their own photography website at T-Mac Photos.com.
Though cold and windy, we really enjoyed this outing with the McGuffeys!
