Update!  Google Map added below!

It's time for the big announcement!

Don't Stop Please
On Saturday, April 28th 2012, your Exploring Izard County Crew will be hosting our Spring Splash II Road Trip and Concert Tour.

The hot young band, "Don't Stop Please" will be entertaining participants with acoustic sets at all three tour locations: The Dodd Hole; The Gristmill Waterfall at Gid; The Gid Waterfall.
Dodd Mill Hole and Falls

The Road Trip will be in two segments:

1) Off-Road Trail Ride to Dodd Hole 10am - 11:30am
Note - This segment has been separated from the rest of the tour for an important reason: The trail to Dodd Hole is VERY rough and will require a Pick-Up Truck or SUV to traverse it. Please! Drive your low-clearance vehicle at your own risk!

Gristmill Waterfall
2) Road Trip and "Rolling Concert" Tour to The Gristmill Waterfall and the Waterfall at Gid 12pm - 3pm
Note - All vehicles welcome!

Gid Waterfall
We will have pic-nic on the grounds of the Gid Waterfall and encourage everyone to bring swimming attire! We want to get you SPLASHED!

As with all of our Road Trip events, we will have limited space available. Please! Contact us ASAP to reserve your spot on this unique tour!

Those who register for this event will receive a packet with a map, schedule, and more details once the tour is filled.

Please contact us at:

hillbillyizard@yahoo.com or by phone at (870) 656-4835

We hope you will "please yourself" and mark your calendars for April 28th! Then come join EIC and DSP for this wonderful opportunity to hear meet a talented group of youngsters who are making big waves on the Arkansas music scene at three of Izard County's most beautiful locations!

Southern Spring Splash!

On Friday, Rick and I joined Sheri G. and her friends, Cathy and Marion from the Fayetteville area, for lunch at the Gid Waterfall before also visiting the Gristmill Waterfall nearby. Sheri (who is Rick's big sister) and Cathy were classmates and close childhood friends.

Cathy, who was raised in Izard County, had visited the Gid Waterfall as a teenager and happened to see it on our site a couple of years ago. We were happy to have been able to take her and her husband to see both waterfalls and both Rick and I thoroughly enjoyed their company...as well as their absolutely scrumptious chicken salad!

Izard County Southern Falls Tour

Sunday afternoon, we had the pleasure of showing off the waterfalls in southern Izard County to the Batesville Daily Guard staff-writer/photographer, Tony McGuffey, and his wife, Roberta. We first went to the Gristmill Waterfall at Gid (bottom photos in post), then to the Gid Waterfall (middle of post), and finally to Dodd Hole (top). Tony and Roberta have their own photography website at T-Mac Photos.com.
Though cold and windy, we really enjoyed this outing with the McGuffeys!

Wintery Week in Izard

We got out Saturday morning to investigare the sights of the Lower Bone School and the Macedonia School, both near Mount Pleasant. A home and outbuilding stands on the site of the Lower Bone site and the road along which stood the Macedonia School, though once a county road, is now reverted to a trail and is gated. We'll contact the owners to see if we might visit the spot on another excursion.
So the morning wasn't a complete wash, we decided to stop by the Gid Waterfall...always worth effort!
The sunset photo was taken in Melbourne earlier in the week.
