Old Boswell School and Vest Cemetery

The Boswell School building is listed on the National register of Historic Places (click the Boswell School link on the page for a history of the building). My mother went to school in this building. She and her brothers would take a trail up the hill and across the cedar-glade from my great-grandfather's place just yards from the Vest Cemetery each day to attend classes. The grand oak-tree in the front yard of the school was the childrens' jungle-gym. On New Year's Eve each year, the kids would hide their resolutions in various containers (like Prince Albert Tobacco cans) in the crooks of the branches.

In the Vest Cemetery lies the remains of James Jackson Vest and his son, Albert Harvey Vest. The Reverend J.J. Vest (James Jackson) was a member of Freeman's Regiment during the War Between the States and Albert Harvey rode with Col. Robert C. Woods Cavalry Regiment...both out of Missouri.

Also buried here is Elam Cockerham whose tragic death at Boswell is documented.
