Knob Creek Church & Cemetery

The Knob Creek Church is a favorite of ours here at EIC. The Cooper family lovingly restored the building several years ago returning it from a modified single-story structure to its original two-story configuration.
Some interesting people buried here include Lorenzo Dow Lafferty IV, the great-great grandson of Lorenzo Dow Senior, son of John Lafferty. Also at rest in this place of internment are W. E. A. Copp and Alonzo Hall...the latter having accompanied the late president Herbert Hoover on an expedition to Pilot Knob when Hoover was around 17 years-old and studying geology.
If you've never been to this wonderful place, you should take the time to drive out there when you get the chance. Just drive out Knob Creek Road (CR 15), cross the bridge and turn left (CR 113), go up the hill and turn left again onto CR 209 and follow it to the church and cemetery

That bit about Hoover is interesting, and the church is beautiful inside.

And outside! This church is near the base of Hunters Mountain and stands only a few yards from Knob Creek itself. Mill Creek is only a few hundred yards downstream where Pumpkin Center was located.

I was excited to find the piece on Hoover's visit to Pilot Knob. Next time you're going to be in, Jeffery, I'll see if I can get permission to make that trek if you'd like.

I'd like that.

I was looking at sites for my upcoming fall wedding and somebody mentioned this church. Do you know if it would even be available for something like that or who I would contact?

Kelley, send me an e-mail at hillbillyizard@yahoo.com and I will give you the info you need. You're in luck if you'd like to be married here. It's a beautiful old building inside and out!
