God's Country!
I know that this is a common claim people make around the world, but to me the Ozarks of Arkansas truly is God's Country! This site will be dedicated to showing anyone interested--Sunday motorists to fair-weather cyclists--some of the hidden treasures in the county they drive through.
Over the past several years, with the explosion of the popularity of custom car-clubs and motorcycle enthusiasts, Izard county has seen a parade of people from outside the area coming to enjoy the panoramic views from the comfort of their chosen mode of pleasurable transportation. Many, I'm absolutely sure, drive by sights that are easily accesible and not far off the highway never even knowing those sights are there. This blog will give anyone searching for information before they visit the area a way to know where some of those places are.

From what I have observed all my life, if these hills are in your blood, eventually you'll be drawn back to them.
There are several small schools experiencing rapid growth in the area...one of the top private Liberal-Arts schools in the nation is situated at the point where the upper-White River begins its transformation into the lower-White River...(Batesville). There is too little history written on the area--perfect oportunity for a homesick displaced hillbilly, you know!
That'd be nice if they'd offer me a job ... but that sort of thing just doesn't seem to happen in my case.
Maybe I should play up my Cherokee blood and hope that they're looking for diversity.

Hi! Saw you on Paris Daily Photo and thought I'd stop by. I live in St. Louis, but was born in Springfield, MO, and have a lot of family in the Ozarks area. Your pictures are bringing back some great childhood memories. I'll probably be popping by every now and then to see more pics of a place so beautiful, familiar, and comforting to me!

Thanks for stopping by. One thing I hope others who aren't familiar with the Ozarks gets when they view my photos is that this is just one COUNTY!
It baffles me to think of how many remarlable historical and geological jewels I'll never know about stuck back in the hills and hollers!

That little brick building in the pictures was once a bank. Then it was a grocery store. My daddy Bill Weaver ran it in the 50's and early 60's. The rock building was Lovelady's store.
